About Travel to Bangkok
There are three ways to travel from Chiang Mai to Bangkok: bus, train and plane. The quickest way to travel is obviously to fly but you see very little of the scenery along the way. If you really want to see Thailand then we recommend that you take Train #8 departing at 08:50 which is the only train that completes most of the journey during daylight hours.

The railway route from Chiang Mai to Bangkok takes you through some great scenery starting with lakes, then mountains before the train track crosses through the large central plain of Thailand passing endless rice paddy fields and historic town such as Lop Buri, with its famous monkey temple which you see from the train and the town of Ayutthaya. It a long journey by train and the last section through the outskirts of Bangkok after dusk can begin to drag. If you plan to take a domestic flight from Don Mueang Airport the next day then do not forget that the train from Chiang Mai stops at Don Mueang Railway Station and you are advised to alight from the train there and stay at a hotel near Don Mueang Airport.
