About Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is a popular holiday destination on the south east coast of Thailand. The main reason for the island’s popularity is its 34 beaches and rugged landscape, the majority of which is covered in dense jungle. Koh Phangan is also popular with younger visitors for its party scene. As well as the famous monthly Full Moon Party, Koh Phangan is also host to a number of smaller parties such the twice monthly Half Moon Festival and the weekly party at the Loi Lay Floating Bar.

Party goers tend to stay near to where the parties take place, which is around Baan Tai beach and Haad Rin Town. Older visitors and families wanting more luxury often go to Thong Nai Pan Noi beach which has 4 coastal luxury resorts. The beach at Thong Nai Pan Noi is considered by many to be one of the best beaches in Asia, which explains why this part of the island has developed into luxury destination whilst most of the rest of the Koh Phangan attracts mostly backpackers and other long stay visitors. By complete contrast, the west side of the island around Haad Yao and Sri Thanu attracts lot of people taking yoga and wellness courses. This part of the island has few late parties but lots of vegetarian restaurants and health food shops. Depending upon where you stay in Koh Phangan the kind of holiday you have there can be very different, everything from late night raves to week long detox and meditation retreats.
