The reason that most foreign visitors come to Trang is because it is a major transport hub connecting the bus, air and train networks to boat services to the nearby islands of Koh Libong, Koh Kradan, Koh Mook and Koh Ngai. Trang is also 3 hours by road and speed boat from Koh Lipe, which is the same time its takes to travel from Hat Yai to Koh Lipe. Trang itself is very pleasant small town with some good food to eat and a friendly atmosphere. Trang Town is not, however, a place with any particularly interesting things to see.
The major tourist attractions in the area are all some distance outside the town so you need to hire a taxi or your own vehicle to make the most of staying in Trang:
- Ton Te Waterfall: 49.3 km to the south east of Trang Town.
- Thung Khai Botanical Garden: Nature reserve in a forest with a tree top walkways only 11.7 km south of Trang Town.
- Le Khao Kob Cave: Caves which you reach in a boat located 30.3 km from Trang Town.
