About Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal

Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal, also known as Sai Tai Mai bus station, is one of three major bus stations in Bangkok. The first thing you need to know about Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal is that it is located on the western side of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, 17 km by road from Siam Square and 12.5 km by road from the Khao San Road. Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal is not currently connected to either of Bangkok’s two rapid transport system either. This means the only options for public transport onward from the station are by taxi or by bus.

There are public bus services from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal into Bangkok. From the hours of 07:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 we advise against taking a public bus from the Southern Bus Terminal because congestion on the roads often means that a 12 to 15 km journey into Central Bangkok can take up to 90 minutes. A quicker option is either to take a meter taxi all the way to your destination, which will cost 150 to 200 THB depending upon the destination and the time of day, or to take a meter taxi to the nearest BTS station. The BTS is Bangkok’s suburban railway system, also known as the ‘skytrain’, which covers most of the popular destinations in Bangkok except for the Khao San Road. The nearest BTS station to Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal is Bang Wa, which is 9 km away by road and the fare to get there in a meter taxi should cost between 80 and 100 THB.
