Wat Chana Songkhram in Bangkok
Wat Chana Songkhram is an historically important temple located very near the Khao San Road in Bangkok. The date when the temple was founded is not known for certain. The record history of Wat Chana Songkhram begins in the late 18th Century when the temple is renamed as Wat Chana Songkhram, which means the Temple of Victory in War. The conflicts referred to are three important battles, which Thai forces won, against the Burmese from 1785 to 1787. On orders from King Rama I the temple was placed under the control of a sect of Mon monks, who themselves originated from Burma. Mon forces had fought with the Thai Army against the Burmese Army and giving them their own dedicated temple was a reward for their loyalty.

Wat Chana Songkhram has a large ordination hall which is ornately decorated with wall murals and statues. The ordination hall was extensively renovated during the reign of King Rama I and the impressive gold Buddha statue was installed at that time. Wat Chana Songkhram gets lot of Thai worshippers who come to the ordination hall to pray. Some Thai Buddhists believe that worshipping at Wat Chana Songkhram will help them overcome difficult challenges in the same way that the Thai armed forces overcame difficult challenges to beat the Burmese in battle.
