About Krabi Town

Krabi Town is a massively underrated destination overlooked by most visitors in the province who travel through the town on the way to Ao Nang, Railay and Koh Phi Phi. There is plenty to do and see in Krabi Town but relatively few tourists, which is great. Krabi Town retains the feel of a Thai town with some great local markets. The main market is Maharaj Food Market which is the largest fresh food market in southern Thailand. Its worth getting up early in the morning to visit Maharaj Food Market which is riot for the senses with colourful vegetables and pungent Thai food on sale in the cooked food section of the market. Krabi Town also has two markets specifically aimed at tourists, the Night Market by the river and Krabi Walking Street which takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and features a live music stage with some pretty good performers.

The main town centre attraction in Krabi Town is the riverside area around Chao Fa Park, which has a riverside walkway from which you can enjoy great river views across mangrove forests to the oddly shaped hills that are a feature of the landscape in this part of Thailand. The major tourist attraction in the area is Wat Tham Suea, 9 km north of Krabi Town, which features atmospheric caves with shrines inside and a hilltop temple with panoramic viewpoint which can only be reached by walking up over a 1,000 steps.
