Bangkok River Ferries
One of the cheapest and most fun ways to travel around Bangkok is on the Chao Phraya Express Boat network. Chao Phraya Express Boats are very cheap commuter ferries running up and down Bangkok’s main city centre river from sunrise to sunset. Most journeys cost less than 20 THB per person which you pay on the boat.

There are 37 Chao Phraya Express Boat Pier from Pakkret Island in the North of Bangkok to Wat Rajsinghkorn in the South of the city. The four piers which are really useful in terms of travelling around Bangkok on holiday are:
- Central Pier (Sathorn): This is pier where you can interchange between the BTS train network and the Chao Phraya Express Boat network. Saphan Taksin BTS station is a short walk from Central Pier.
- Pier 4 (Marine Department): This pier is a 1.2 km walk from Bangkok Railway Station.
- Pier 8 (Tha Tien): This is the stop for Wat Po and the Grand Palace and it’s also close to the cross river ferry to Wat Arun.
- Pier 13 (Phra Arthit): This stop is easy walking distance from the Khao San Road. The Khao San Road is not connected to either of Bangkok’s two cheap and efficient public transport networks (the BTS and MRT) so if are staying near the Khao San Road and want to avoid overpriced taxi and tuk-tuk services then use the Chao Phraya Express Boat to connect with BTS service or to get to the main train station.
