Petaling Street Market in Kuala Lumpur

Petaling Street Market is a covered market located in the China Town area of Kuala Lumpur near KL Central Market, but very different to KL Central Market. KL Central Market mostly sells high quality hand crafted Malaysian products, whilst what is on sale at Petaling Street Market is mostly lower quality imitations of known brands sold at cheap prices. The main things you can buy at Petaling Street Market are souvenirs and clothes, including shoes. There are bargains to be found at this market, so long as you are good at bargaining. In the evening visitors should be a bit careful of their money, phones and valuable as pick pockets have been known to occasionally operate in this market.

The main reason most people come to Petaling Street Market is not to buy fake products or t-shirts that say ‘Kuala Lumpur’ on them but to eat at the brilliant food stalls and small restaurants on the main street of the market and a small side street about way along. There are lots of food courts on this side street (connecting to Jalan Sultan) selling Indian, Malaysian and Chinese food at cheap prices. Beer is sold in these food courts as well and they are generally full of local people well into midnight drinking, eating and generally having a good time.
