About Travel to Koh Samui
The point of arrival in Koh Samui for joint bus and ferry services operated by the Seatran Discovery company from Koh Lanta is Bangrak. There are several long distance ferry piers in Koh Samui but the one in Bangrak is the most convenient for travel to the island’s three most popular holiday destinations: Bophut, Chaweng and Lamai. If you travel with the Raja Ferry or Lomprayah High Speed Ferry companies then you will arrive at a pier on the west coast of the island and from there it is a much longer journey to any of these three popular beach resort destination. The additional travelling time after you arrive in Koh Samui will most likely be unwelcome after you have completed the long journey from Koh Lanta.

After arrival at Bangrak Seatran Pier in Koh Samui you have three options for onward travel to your hotel or guesthouse. The most expensive option is to take a taxi. Taxis tend to be expensive in Koh Samui because, unlike in Bangkok, they refuse to use a meter and charge relatively high prices. Expect to pay between 500 and 1,000 THB for the short journey from Bangrak Seatran Pier to Chaweng, and perhaps slightly less for the very short journey to Bophut. The next cheapest option to take a pre-paid minivan transfer with the Seatran Discovery Company. You can book this whilst you are on the ferry and most likely you will be approach by a Seatran Discovery employee during the journey to sell you a ticket. The charge is 150 THB per person. Seatran Discovery have lots of minivans so generally you won’t have to endure any long detours to drop off other passengers before reaching your destination. The cheapest option, however, is to take one of the shared taxi which ply the road in front of the pier. Shared taxis towards Fisherman’s Village in Bophut are infrequent, however, shared taxis travelling in the other direction towards Chaweng are plentiful. To catch one of these shared taxis walk left along the road after exiting from the ferry terminal terminal, over a short road bridge, and wait after the junction.
