Thong Nai Pan in Koh Phangan

Thong Nai Pan in the north east of Koh Phangan is considered by many to have one of the best beaches in Thailand. Previously only accessible by a dirt road, Thong Nai Pan has developed into a major tourist destination over the last 10 years and the location of the 4 top hotels on Koh Phangan, some offering beach front villas that cost over $1,000 USD a night. Not all the accommodation is expensive or luxury, however. Thong Nai Pan is made up of two bays which are close together. The luxury hotels are all clustered along Thong Nai Pan Noi, which is the smaller of the two bays.

Thong Nai Pan Yai, the larger bay has bungalows costing from 400 THB a night, although these bungalows are fan cooled and not located on the beach front. Wherever you stay in Thong Nai Pan, and whichever bay you stay on, the beaches are great. The sand is clean and white. The sea is calm for most of the year and unpolluted. It’s a great place to swim and neither beach ever gets crowded in the same way that the beaches in Pattaya or Koh Samui become during the tourist high season. The scenery behind the beaches is also great. There is a thin strip of flat land behind both bays and behind that it’s steep hills covered with forest.
