Koh Larn near Pattaya

Located just 5 km off the coast, Koh Larn (also written as Ko Lan) is a very popular island for day trippers from Pattaya as well as Thai tourists from Bangkok. Over past few years the average daily number of has been around 3,000 in low season and up to 20,000 in high season. Given the size of Koh Larn, which is 4 km by 2 km with a forested hilly interior, that means the island can get very busy at some times of the year. There are a number of reasons why Koh Larn is so popular.

The main attraction of Koh Larn is its beaches. There are 8 beaches on the island which are suitable for swimming and sunbathing and far better than Pattaya’s town centre beaches. The island is small and the beaches are therefore close together which gives visitors the option of being able to choose between a number of different beaches without having to travel a long way. The other attraction of Koh Larn is its accessibility. Visitors come from Bangkok to Koh Larn at the weekends in large numbers because Koh Larn has probably the closest good beaches to Bangkok. It is an easy drive from Bangkok to Pattaya and from Pattaya visitors can either take a speedboat over to Koh Larn or a public ferry which costs only 30 THB each way per person. Once on the island visitors have lots of restaurants to choose from and some hotels and resorts where they can stay. The ferry pier to Koh Larn is in Pattaya city centre which means that day trippers from Pattaya can easily and cheaply make their way to the island and back again same day in time to enjoy the entertainment on offer in Pattaya after dark.
