About Uttaradit
Uttaradit is city in the Northern Region of Thailand with a population over 150,000 permanent residents across the 17 districts in Mueang Uttaradit. Uttaradit receives very few foreign visitors and most who come for tourism are on route to Ton Sak Yai Forest Park, which has the world’s largest teak tree, or to visit the Sirikit Dam, the largest in Thailand, or travelling to the neighbouring province of Xayabuli in Laos. Uttaradit has a train station on the main Bangkok to Chiang Mai railway line and a large bus station which makes the city the main transport hub for the province.

Uttaradit does, however, have two temples which are worth visiting if you travel to the city:
- Wat Phra Thaen Si La At: This temple is famous for its Mandop (a square structure with a pointed roof) covering a footprint of the Lord Buddha. The temple also has a very elaborate shrine hall containing a Buddha statue which was previously located by the footprint, as well a slab of stone upon which the Lord Buddha to have sat.
- Wat Phra Brommathat Thung Yang: Beautiful Lanna style temple with a large Sri Lankan style chedi believed to contain relics from the Lord Buddha’s who, according to local legend, visited Uttaradit Province. Inside the temple is a very large seated gold Buddha statue.
