Travel into Bangkok

You can take a taxi from both Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi International Airports into Bangkok, and if you do we recommend that you only ever get your taxi through the official taxi rank at both airports to avoid being overcharged. However, we recommend that instead of getting a taxi that you take public transport to get into Central Bangkok if you are able to walk short distances with your luggage. It’s a lot cheaper and more environmentally friendly, particularly if you are travelling alone.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport has a fast rail link (known as the ‘Airport Link’) from the airport into Central Bangkok linking up with the MRT (metro) and BTS (skytrain) networks which connect with most areas in Central Bangkok. The Airport Link Station is in the basement of the main terminal at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The fare to Makkasan to connect with the MRT is 35 THB and the fare to Phaya Thai to connect with the BTS is 45 THB.

Don Mueang Airport is not currently connected to Bangkok’s rapid transport network, although it does have a train station from where you can travel direct to destinations on the Northern and North Eastern Railway Lines such as Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai. There is also a suburban railway service which connects Don Mueang Airport to Bang Sue MRT station.

There, however, four fast air-conditioned bus services which depart from in front of the domestic terminal at Don Mueang Airport from 08:30 to 23:30 everyday for a fixed fare of 30 THB, routes A1 and A2 connect with the MRT and BTS networks near Chatchujak Market:

  • A1: Don Meuang Airport to the Northern Bus Terminal.
  • A2: Don Meuang Airport to Victory Monument.
  • A3: Don Meuang Airport to Ratchadamri BTS (stops near the Silom and Sukhumvit Roads).
  • A4: Don Meuang Airport to Sanamluang Bus Terminal (stops on route near the Khao San Road).
