About Khon Kaen
Khon Kaen is a large city in the North Eastern region of Thailand. Economically and culturally Khon Kaen is an important provincial urban centre. Khon Kaen is known as an educational centre with several large universities based in the city. Khon Kaen does not, however, attract many tourists as there is little of interest for tourists in the city. There are though good hotels, restaurants and bars which cater to Asian travellers who come to this important city for business or work, or a steady stream of foreign men who visit Khon Kaen because they have met a Thai lady in Bangkok or Pattaya who has family in Khon Kaen.

If you do end up in Khon Kaen perhaps on route to somewhere else or because you have something to do in the city then the major points of interest are:
- City Pillar Shrine: A important shrine in the centre of Khon Kaen set within an attractive garden. This shrine is the focal point of the city.
- Bueng Kaen Nakhon: A large lake with a park in the centre of the city.
- Khon Kaen National Museum: City centre museum displaying artefacts relating to early settlements in the North East Region of Thailand.
- Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon: City centre temple with an interesting 9 storey stupa.
