About Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is made up of 6 islands. The largest of these islands is Koh Phi Phi Don which is the only inhabited island in the Phi Phi archipelago. The other major island is Koh Phi Phi Leh which is the location of Maya Beach which is famous for being the setting the traveller camp in the film the ‘Beach’. Until recently Maya Beach was a major tourist attractions with thousands of visitors a day taking day trips to Koh Phi Phi Leh to visit Maya Beach. However, because of environmental concerns Maya Beach is now closed to tourists for the foreseeable future whilst the Thai authorities give the area’s eco-system time to recover and to work out a way to manage visitors numbers in the future to better protect the island.

In recent years Koh Phi Phi Don has become well known for being a ‘party island’ attracting lots of younger visitors who want to drink in late night bars and sit on crowded beaches in the daytime. For a quieter experience consider staying in the north of the island in Laem Thong, away from Ton Sai Bay where the main ferry pier is located and the majority of the cheap accommodation. Laem Thong has a beautiful beach and some spectacular steep sided cliff.
