Travel from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal

Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal is inconveniently located more than 20 km to the west of Central Bangkok on the other side of Chao Phraya River. There are local bus services between Central Bangkok and the Southern Bus Terminal, but Bangkok’s modern fast efficient suburban light railway networks (the BTS or MRT) does not currently reach the Southern Bus Terminal.

The quickest and cheapest way to travel into Central Bangkok from the Southern Bus Terminal is take a taxi to the nearest BTS (sky train) station and board a train there to travel into Central Bangkok. The nearest BTS station to the Southern Bus Terminal is Bang Wa BTS station which is 9.1 km away. A taxi between the Southern Bus Terminal and Bang Wa BTS station should cost 80 to 100 THB. The BTS fare from Bang Wa to Chong Nonsi BTS station on the Silom Road is 48 THB and the fare to Nana BTS station on the Sukhumvit Road is 59 THB. If you are travelling to an area not connected to the BTS or MRT system (such as the area around the Khao San Road) then you are better offer simply taking a meter taxi all the way which will cost in the region of 150 to 200 THB depending on the destination and the time of day. The traffic in Central Bangkok can become very congested during busy times making travel by road very slow and taxi is not always the best option for travel to destinations on the BTS or MRT.
