Wat Phra That Phanom is famous among Thai people and other Asian Buddhists for its 57 metre tall white and gold chedi, which is believed to contain the breast bone of the Lord Buddha. A commonly held belief among Thai Buddhists is that by visiting the temple on 7 different occasions, and walking around the chedi 3 times on each visit, then making offerings, will result in health and prosperity for life.

Worth the Effort

Not so many foreign visitors make it to Wat Phra That Phanom because it is some distance from the more popular tourist areas around Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket, however, those who do take the trouble to make the journey will find this temple a special and magical place with some of the best temple architecture and sculptures in Thailand.
