About Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru, known locally as simply ‘JB’, is city of around half a million permanent residents located right at the south tip of Western Malaysia.

Tourism in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru is not a popular tourist destination in its own right, although the nearby Legoland Malaysia attracts a lot of visitors. Johor Bahru has long been known as an economically depressed town with a reputation for having a high crime rate. The city has received some recent investment and is starting to show signs of becoming a better place to live.

Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Palace Museum

The city centre’s major historical site, and potentially its one major tourist attraction, is the Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Palace Museum which used to be the residence of the Sultan of Johor and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Unfortunately, this luxurious palace has been closed since 2016, most likely due to lack of funds.
