About Khao Sok National Park

Khao Sok National Park covers an area of 739 square kilometres, of which the man made Cheow Lan Lake occupies 165 square kilometres. The part of the park which is not under water is pristine rain forest with hills, the highest of which is 950 metres above sea level. From the lake you can see jagged karst hills reminiscent of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.

Animal and Plant Life

The park is home to a wide range of fish, plant life, bird, insects, reptiles and mammals. There are tigers in the park although you are unlikely to see these elusive creatures you may hear them at night if you stay in the park.

Accessible by Boat

Khao Sok National Park is one of the more popular nature reserves in Thailand for tourists because the large lake makes it very accessible. You can travel deep into the park by boat rather than walking for days through the jungle, and you can also stay overnight at floating bungalows within the park.

Activities in the Park

Kayaking, swimming and fishing are popular activities for visitors to the park. Trekking is also a popular activity and the only way to access the park’s many waterfalls and to see the most famous plant in the park, which is the rafflesia whose flowers can grow up to 1 metre in width.
