About Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta is very different to other nearby popular Thai islands such as Koh Lipe and Koh Phi Phi. Koh Lanta is cheaper, more laid back and the resorts, restaurants and bars are much more spread out, and the island rarely seems crowded even during the tourist high season. The main island, Koh Lanta Yai, is 30 km long with beaches running all the way down the west cost of the island. The beaches in the north of the island, such as Klong Dao Beach, are the busiest. As you travel south the beaches, such as Bamboo Beach and Ao Nui Beach, become a lot quieter and less developed.

The main town in Koh Lanta Yai is Baan Saladan and this is where the island’s long distance ferry and speed boats arrive and depart. Baan Saladan is a pleasant town with some great small guesthouses located on the seafront near to the ferry pier and lots of good restaurants. Koh Lanta also has an interesting Old Town on the East Coast of Koh Lanta Yai with old wooden buildings many of which have now been transformed into boutique style shops, restaurants and bars and is one of the island’s main tourist attractions.
