About travel to Siem Reap
Siem Reap is the closest town to the ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat, which is the largest religious monument in the world. You can hire a car or tuk-tuk for the day in Siem Reap to take you from your hotel in Siem Reap around the major attractions in Angkor Wat. The alternative to flying to Siem Reap is to take a bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap which takes around 9 hours including the time it takes for everyone on the bus to cross the border into Cambodia.

Train services from Bangkok to Siem Reap are under development but still a few years away from completion. At the moment you can take a train (a slow train) from Bangkok to the border with Cambodia at Poipet. The cross border trains service into Cambodia is likely to start running near the end of 2018, with connections from Poipet to Phnom Penh on course to resume early 2019. A branch line from Poipet to Siem Reap is still at the planning stage, as is a high speed railway service. For the next few years at least the only high speed travel service between Bangkok and Siem reap is likely to remain air travel.
