The first stage is by bus 293 km from Hua Hin city centre to Thong Makham Noi Ferry Pier near Chumphon. This part of the journey takes around 5 hours. The bus is air-conditioned and has an on board toilet. At Thong Makham Noi Ferry Pier passengers board a high speed ferry for a journey of around 3 hours 50 minutes to Koh Samui via Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. The ferries all have an indoor air-conditioned cabin as well an outdoor seating area. These ferries also have a small shop selling drinks and snacks. Toilets are located on the lower deck.

There are two options for onward travel from Pralan Pier, which is an isolated location some distance from a major road. The easiest option is to book a minivan transfer whilst you are on the ferry. Alternatively, you can walk 950 metres to the main ring road around the island and flag down a shared taxi. Fares are 50 to 100 THB depending upon where you going.
