The alternative to flying with Bangkok Air is to fly to Surat Thani Airport or Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport with a low-cost carrier and then taking a joint bus and ferry service from the airport to Koh Samui.

About travel to Koh Samui
There are two main alternatives to flying from Bangkok to Koh Samui. The first alternative is to take an overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, and then to take a joint bus and ferry service to Koh Samui. This is a popular alternative because inexpensive sleeper seats are available on Thai trains. Once you arrive at Surat Thani Railway Station there are frequent direct services to Koh Samui which depart from the car park in front of the railway station.

The other alternative to flying is to take a joint bus and ferry service from Bangkok to Koh Samui. The cheapest bus services depart from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal and travel via Surat Thani city, before travelling onto the ferry port in Donsak. These services take 18 to 20 hours to reach Koh Samui. The alternative bus services to take the more expensive Lomprayah High Speed Ferry service which departs from near to Khao San Road and arrives in Koh Samui 14 hours later.
