About Krabi Town
Krabi Town is located on the banks of the Pak Nam Krabi river near to where it flows into the sea. The small town of Krabi, with a population of around 55,000, is not as popular with tourists as nearby Ao Nang or Railay but it is a charming and authentic town worth exploring.
The focal point of the town is the riverside area which is very popular at sunset. Chaofa Park, on the riverside in the town centre, has a small market, a riverside walkway, several ferry and boat piers, and a lot of sculptures.
Krabi Town also has a lot of markets. There are three night markets and one very large morning market. The morning market, known as Maharaj Market, is the largest fresh food market in Southern Thailand. As well as vegetables and meat, Maharaj Market also has a wide range of food stalls selling classic Thai foods and also some Western style breads and cakes. In the evening time the riverside night market, also in Chaofa Park, serves inexpensive Thai and seafood dishes.
In the town there are two night markets. The largest is a weekend market, branded as ‘Walking Street’ which has clothes and souvenirs on sale as well as a stage with live music performances from 17:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The other night market, which is close by, operates every night of the week and is predominantly a food market.
