Chaokoh Ferry, Thailand

The Chaokoh Group operates a fleet of ferries in the Andaman Sea off the west coast of Thailand connecting the popular tourist island of Koh Phi Phi with Krabi, Phuket and Koh Lanta. On most of these routes Chaokoh ferries are the cheapest, but often slowest service provider. For travellers with patience using the Chaokoh ferry services is a great way to save money.

About the Chaokoh Ferry

The Chaokoh Group uses more than 4 ferries to service various routes to and from Koh Phi Phi. The biggest, fastest and most luxurious boats operate on the Phuket to Koh Phi Phi route which is the longest sea crossing Chaokoh ferries regularly undertake.

Much more basic boats run on the route between Krabi and Koh Phi Phi. These wooden boats which are not air-conditioned (you open the window for ventilation) are cheap and travel at the same speed as all the other ferries on this route, only the speedboat services are quicker.

The Chaokoh Group run a much better ferry on the route between Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta, whilst maintaining the same great vale for money. If you are only going to travel on Chaokoh ferry on one journey, then the Koh Phi Phi to Koh Lanta route is the one to choose. The ferry between Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta is a 2 deck ferry, with both cabins air-conditioned. The seating is padded and comfortable as well particularly given that its only a 1 hour journey.

As well being cheap, Chaokoh ferries also have outside areas which can go during the journey. Some of the other operators use boats which don’t really have any outdoor space and you are pretty much confined to your seat for the duration of the voyage.

The Chaokoh Group operates 2 services each way on each of the three routes its ferries ply. What happens is that the same ferry goes, comes back, goes again and then comes back again as the last trip of the day.
