By ferry and public bus or minivan it takes between 7 and 8 hours to travel 348 km from Koh Samui to Hat Yai. You can also travel by train from Surat Thani train station (which is the closest railway station to Koh Samui) to Hat Yai.

Travel in Hat Yai
Hat Yai bus station is located 2.9 km away from Hat Yai train station which is in the most popular part of Hat Yai city which is the area with the best hotels and busiest shops and markets. For travel between the bus station and this part of town you can take either a motorbike taxi or a small blue taxi van. The fare should be 40 to 60 THB using either form of transport.

With the exception of the services to Penang and Kuala Lumpur, the best place to get a bus to destinations beyond Hat Yai, such as the border at Padang Besar or Songkhla, are from the main bus station. If you need to stay overnight in Hat Yai before taking another bus from Hat Yai bus station the next day then we recommend staying at the CK Residence which is less than 100 metres from the bus station. At night food vendors set up tables and chairs on the road in front of the bus station a few metres from the entrance to the CK Residence.
