About Lampang
Lampang, with a city centre population of around 60,000 permanent residents, is the third largest city in Thailand’s Northern Region after Chiang Mai and Phitsanulok. Lampang is a city which is often overlooked as a tourist destination in favour of other destinations in the same region such as Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai which have more and better known attractions for visitors. Lampang is, however, worth visiting for a number of reasons. In Lampang City itself there is an interesting old city area. On the south side of the Wang River there are many old wooden shop house buildings, particularly on the Talad Gao Road where the Kad Kong Ta Street Market is held at the weekend. Across to the north side of river there are some old teak wood houses, such as Baan Sao Nak, which you can visit. This part of the city also has some interesting temples to visit such as Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao and Wat Pratu Ton Phueng.

Lampang’s major tourist attraction is Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, which is located 13.4 km by road to the west of Lampang Bus Station. Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is a 13th Century temple which has a large wooden prayer hall and is believed to host an important religious relic. Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is also a striking temple located on a hill and surrounded by fortifications.
