About Travel to Koh Tao

Ferry services from Donsak to Koh Tao travel via the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, stopping briefly at each of these two islands to drop off and pick up passengers and cargo. There are two ferry companies following the same route. The cheaper of these two companies is the Songerm travel company. Songserm uses a two deck wooden boat with some outside areas at the front and rear. There are two rows of four tightly packed seats. The Songserm service also has a small shop with snacks and drinks, as well as toilets at the back of the cabin. The Songserm service is most popular with younger travellers on a smaller budget. Older traveller with more money to spend are advised to take the other ferry service from Donsak to Koh Tao which is operated by the Seatran Discovery company. Seatran Discovery ferries are more modern and faster, with more comfortable cabins, and outside seating on the upper deck.

A more comfortable option is to take the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry service from Surat Thani city itself. The Lomprayah High Speed Ferry service departs from a ferry pier on a river a few kilometres to the north of Surat Thai city centre. The Lomprayah High Speed Ferry company uses large and very fast catamaran ferries with air-conditioned cabins and outside seating. These ferries have a much better on board shop with sandwiches and a wider range of other snacks and drinks than is offered on the Songserm and Seatran Discovery services.
