A cheaper service is offered by the Songserm ferry company. Songserm uses a two deck wooden boat with some outside areas at the front and rear. There are two rows of four tightly packed seats. The Songserm ferry also has a small shop with snacks and drinks, as well as toilets at the back of the cabin.
The Songserm service is most popular with younger travellers on a smaller budget. Older traveller with more money to spend are advised to take the other ferry service from Donsak to Koh Tao which is operated by the Seatran Discovery company. Seatran Discovery ferries are more modern and faster, with more comfortable cabins, and outside seating on the upper deck.
