Street Art in Phuket Town
An increasing number of good quality wall murals have started appearing the old town area of Phuket Town, concentrated in the area around the Thalang Road. These murals have been sanctioned and encouraged by the town government and local tourist board as a tourist traction in their own right, following the successful installation wall murals in Penang, Malaysia, as part of the George Town Festival in 2012. Other towns in Thailand such as Trang, Phatthalung and Songkhla are doing something similar. The collections of street art in Thailand and in Malaysia have a unifying theme, which is a celebration of local life and culture.

The murals in Phuket Town have been organised by a group called 4studio. 4studio has now finished its second season of creating wall murals in Phuket Town. The first season involved inviting artists from all over Thailand, as well as from abroad, to create wall murals. By contrast, in the second season the works have all been created by local artists including the excellent mural of King Rama IX, who died in 2018, on the Dibuk Road near Wat Mongkol Nimit.
