Beaches in Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe has two main beaches: Pattaya Beach and Sunrise Beach. Pattaya Beach is on the south coast of Koh Lipe and this is where speed boat and ferries arrive during the tourist season when the weather is calm. From around 09:00 until 16:00 Pattaya Beach is very busy with speed boats pulling up to floating plastic pontoon moored to the beach itself and a floating pier moored in deeper water off the beach. At other times Pattaya Beach is a pleasant place to swim and sunbathe.

The more popular beach, however, is Sunrise Beach on the north east coast of Koh Lipe. The clearness of the water on this beach is the reason why Koh Lipe is often described as the ‘Maldives of Thailand’. Sunrise Beach is narrow at its southern end widening out as you near the top end of this 1.2 km stretch of fine white sand. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and beach huts at the edge of the sand on Sunrise Beach. This is one of few beaches in Thailand where you can stay very close to the point where the sea washes up on the beach, although of course you pay a premium for being that close to the sea. The restaurants and bars here, however, are also very good so even if you are not staying on the beach itself you can spend a whole day on the beach occupying one of the tables at these establishments so long as you regularly order drinks and food.
