Tonsai Village on Koh Phi Phi

Tonsai Village is the main town on Koh Phi Phi Don, sandwiched between Tonsai Bay and Loh Dalum Beach on the narrowest part of the island, and the place where the majority of visitors to the island stay. The main ferry pier on Koh Phi Phi, Tonsai Pier, is located in Tonsai Village as is the island’s most popular beach, Loh Dalum Beach. Tonsai Village has a well deserved reputation as a ‘party town’ and other than day trips by boat most visitors to the island only really Tonsai Village, and perhaps take a walk up to Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint above Tonsai Village.

If you are a younger traveller and looking to spend time with other younger travellers and party in the evenings then Tonsai Village is definitely the place you want to stay. Despite all the people and all the pollution they create it’s a beautiful place and a great base for sightseeing in the area. The town itself has lots of bars and restaurants, and some budget accommodation. If, however, that is not what you are looking for from your holiday to Thailand then it’s probably best to avoid Tonsai Village and head up to the northern part of Koh Phi Phi to Laem Thong Beach, or perhaps just spend a single day in Koh Phi Phi and then take a two hour boat journey to Koh Lanta which has more relaxed atmosphere and is much less crowded.
