About Phayao
Phayao is a charming North Thai town with a large lake and some interesting temple. Phayao is also a good base for exploring nearby national parks and mountains ranges where there are few facilities. Phayao is also a good stop over point for travel to Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong.

The main attractions in Phayao town are the lake, which as an island with temple in it, and the hilltop temples of Wat Analayo and Wat Phra That Chom Thong. Whilst in town it worth dropping into the Phayao Cultural Exhibition Hall to see the dinosaur fossils and exhibits about local culture, including a detailed explanations of the different fishing methods used in the town’s lake. Phayao also a lively daytime market in the centre of town, and a weekend market at the lakeside park on the Chaykwan Road, and if that is not still enough excitement for you then further afield you can visit Champatong Waterfall and Mae Puem National Park.
