Wat Suthat Thepwararam in Bangkok

Wat Suthat Thepwararam is an important temple located walking distance from the Grand Palace in Bangkok. This particular temple should be on more foreign visitors’s lists of places to visit, but in fact receives a relatively small number of foreign visitors. A lot of Thai people, however, visit this temple. Wat Suthat Thepwararam is over 200 years old. Construction on the temple began in 1807 and was completed in 1847. The temple has two main buildings: a prayer hall and an ordination hall behind. The prayer hall is the more impressive of the two buildings, and is believed to be the tallest Buddhist prayer hall in Thailand. The reason the prayer hall is so tall is that it was purpose built to house an 8 metre tall statue of the Lord Buddha which discovered in a ruined temple in Sukhothai.
