About Baan Sao Nak in Lampang

Baan Sao Nak in Lampang town is a teak house built in 1895 as a private home which has now been opened as a museum. The name ‘Baan Sao Nak’ is a descriptive name given to the house at a much later date and means the House of Many Pillars. The building is supported by 116 thick teak wood pillars. The interiors of the house are filled with antique furniture and old pictures of the house, its former residents and of Lampang over the last 100 years.

A visit to Baan Sao Nak provides an interesting insight to how people, albeit very wealthy people, lived at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. Baan Sao Nak was built before fans or air-conditioning were widely available and it has a light and airy feel to it with high ceilings and excellent natural ventilation.
