Nong Prajak Park in Udon Thani
Nong Prajak Park is in the main park in Udon Thani City Centre. Nong Prajak Park is located over 4 km to the west of Udon Thani Railway Station in what is the older part of the city, near the main temple, Wat Pothisomphon. The central feature of Nong Prajak Park is a large man made lake with family of giant yellow plastic ducks floating around it and lots of yellow plastic boats for rent. Around the outside of the lake is running track which is busy in the early morning and late afternoon.
In two corners of Nong Prajak Park are large landscaped area joined together by a small bridge. The eastern area features a playground for children, a floral clock, several statues and a large model of the kind of ancient pottery vase found at Ban Chiang Village, which is a famous archaeological site 50 km to the east of Udon Thani. As municipal parks in Thailand go, Nong Prajak Park is pretty good. Local people use the park as a place to exercise and for their children to play in. The park is open every day from 04:00 to 20:00 and entry is free. Although drinking alcohol is banned in the park we recommend that visitors stay clear of unlit parts of the park after it gets dark as there is a small risk of crime and anti-social behaviour.
