About Wat Thammikaram Worawihan in Prachuap Khiri Khan
Wat Thammikaram Worawihan is a large temple complex located near to the centre of Prachuap Khiri Khan in Southern Thailand. The popular part of the temple with visitors is the part located on Khao Chong Krajok hill. The 245 metre high Khao Chong Krajok hill overlooks the town and the coast and has a small old temple at the top which you can only reach by climbing up 418 steps. It is not a particularly difficult climb which takes between 5 and 15 minutes depending on your physical condition and how much of a hurry you are in. The best time to go is in the morning before 08:00 when its not too hot.

If you go in the morning or late afternoon you will encounter a large number of wild macaque monkeys both on the stairs on the way up and inside the hilltop temple itself. The monkeys are not dangerous if you don’t do anything to provoke them. Feeding the monkeys or trying to touch them is not advisable. From the temple at the top you get a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day the views are absolutely superb and you can take some excellent photographs with the moneys and temple in the foreground with panoramic vistas behind. The temple is free to visit and a wonderful experience if you are able to make it up the stairs to the top.
