Travel from Hat Yai
Hat Yai is a major transport hub for travel throughout Southern Thailand and onto nearby Malaysia. If you are planning to travel from Hat Yai to Koh Lipe you can take a direct bus and ferry from right outside the front of the airport, for overland travel to most other destination however you need to travel into Hat Yai city to either the train station or the bus station for onward travel. Hat Yai Airport is about 27 km from Hat Yai City and the standard price for a taxi is 250 THB.

There are bus and minivan services to most destinations in Southern Thailand from Hat Yai Bus Station. Minivan services in particular are quick cheap and useful. A minivan to Padanag Besar for the border crossing into Malaysia costs 50 THB and a minivan services to Satun for ferries to Langkawi also cost 50 THB. Minivan services to Songkhla are even cheaper at 34 THB per person. Longer distance services to Penang and Kuala Lumpur also depart from Hat Yai Bus Station although most travellers going to Kuala Lumpur in particular choose to travel with one of the tour bus companies operating from the city centre near to the train station. Travel by train from Hat Yai is a good option for travel northwards to Surat Thani, Chumphon and Hua Hin because you can book a sleeper berth if you travel on the later departures and sleep for part of the journey.
