About Travel to Trang
Trang is a small provincial capital located about 30 km inland from the Andaman Sea. Trang is not a popular destination for foreign tourists, it’s somewhere international tourists generally only ever pass through on the way to or from the four well known islands of Koh Libong, Koh Muk, Koh Ngai and Koh Kradan.
Transport from Trang
Trang has good transport connections:
- 2 long distance train services a day travelling to Bangkok via cities such as Surat Thani, Chumphon and Hua Hin.
- Low cost flights with Thai AirAsia, Nok Air and and Thai Lion Air to Bangkok.
- Bus services from Trang Bus Terminal to a variety of different destinations across Southern and Central Thailand.
For travel to Malaysia we recommend that you travel by bus to Hat Yai, and from there board either a plane, a train or a bus to complete your journey.

Staying overnight in Trang
Trang receives only a small number of foreign visitors and the facilities for foreign visitors are therefore relatively underdeveloped. The best place to stay in Trang, particularly if your stay is overnight to take a connecting bus, train or plane the next morning, is close to Trang Railway Station. There are a small number of hotels close to the railway station (for example, the Sri Trang Hotel, the Thumrin House and the Maison de Cheer) which are popular with foreign visitors.
Trang is also well known in Thailand for its food, particularly Chinese food. Many of the restaurants in Trang, like many other Thai towns tend to close early. For example, the popular Ruean Thai Dim Sum, is only open in the mornings from 06:00 to 12:00. There are, however, restaurants near the train station, such as Seabreeze Restaurant and Wine Corner Bar & Bistro Trang, which stay open much later.
Tourist Attractions in Trang
Trang is a pleasant town with some interesting Sino-Portuguese architecture, such as the Governor’s Residence. Trang’s street art is also worth seeing along with its 100 year old distinctive yellow colour European style church. Beyond these few points of interest, the most popular tourist attractions in Trang Province are all some distance from the town itself:
- Thung Khai Botanical Garden (11 km from Trang)
- Le Khao Kob Cave (30 km from Trang)
- Ton Te Waterfall (49 km from Trang)
