Compare Ao Nang and Krabi Town
Krabi Town and Ao Nang are very close to each other (15.6 km by road) but very different. Ao Nang is the most popular beach resort town in mainland Krabi Province. The small town of Ao Nang and the long road in front of Ao Nang have a very wide range of restaurants, bars and shops, and visitors can choose to eat both Thai food as well as brand name fast food and European food. Ao Nang is also very lively in the night time with lots places to go out for a drink. In many respects a holiday in Ao Nang is very similar to a holiday in a popular beach resort town such as you find in Spain or in Greece. English is widely spoken and the locals businesses are very much geared up to catering for foreign visitors.

Krabi Town is very different. Far fewer foreign visitors choose to stay in Krabi Town, although many visit the various night markets in the early evening. Krabi Town has some hotels and restaurants which cater to foreign visitors but not that many. A much larger proportion of people you see in and around the town are local residents. The main commercial centre in Krabi Town is Maharaj Food Market which is a morning market and the largest food market in Southern Thailand. Krabi Town has a laid back feel to it and some very beautiful scenery by the river in the town centre. Children and young adults might find it less exciting to stay in Krabi Town than in Ao Nang, although older travellers are more likely to appreciate the much less touristy atmosphere. Krabi Town is also much cheaper than Ao Nang for accommodation and for food, particularly as in Krabi Town there are three night markets selling inexpensive food.
