About Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta is a unique destination very different to other islands in Thailand. Koh Lanta is a large island, or rather group of islands, with resorts which are spread out along a log coast line, unlike Koh Phi Phi where the majority of the visitors stay in in an area densely packed with hotels with a single easily accessible swimming beach.
Koh Lanta’s main island, Koh Lanta Yai, has a series of beaches dotted along its 30 km west coastline. The busiest beaches are in the north of the island near Saladan town where the main long distance ferry pier is located. As you travel south the beaches become progressive quieter and less developed culminating the tranquil and beautiful Bamboo Beach at the southern end of the island.

The east coast Koh Lanta is completely different to the west coast, with very few beaches but a number of places of interest to visit such as Koh Lanta Old Town and several Chao Ley (sea gypsy) settlements. The east coast also has mangrove forests which you can explore on local tours. In the centre of the island there are some caves which are also well worth a visit. Overall Koh Lanta has a very laid back atmosphere, plenty of space and lots of great scenery.
