About Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a 20 km long strip of coastal resorts which starts 37 km to the north of the northern tip of Phuket Island. Khao Lak has three main population centres all connected by the Phetkasem Road, which is one of the main highways in Thailand connecting Bangkok to the border with Malaysia. Having your own transport is useful in Khao Lak as there is little in the way of public transport and unless you are content staying within walking distance of your resort you may find it difficult to get to and from the attractions in the area, such as the Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park and the Lampi Waterfall.

Unlike parts of nearby Phuket, Khao Lak has few bars and little nightlife. This is somewhere to come for a family holiday or peaceful days on the beach. Khao Lak has some expensive resorts and it also has some cheap ones. One activity you can do in Khao Lak is to take a diving trip to either Similan Islands or the Surin Islands. The dive sites are over 60 km from the mainland which means either a long day out with several hours travelling time in a speedboat or an overnight trip on a live aboard diving boat. There are also two golf courses in Khao Lak.
