About Langkawi
Langkawi is a large Malaysian island near to the border with Thailand which the Malaysian government has invested into to develop the island into Malaysia’s premier resort destination. The Malaysian government wisely decided to designate Langkawi as a duty-free island which make buying alcohol and other products, normally subject to fairly high tax, cheaper in Langkawi than other part of Malaysia. A lot of people come to Langkawi to shop and there are plenty of shops and shopping centres selling all kinds of products at relatively cheap prices. A lot of the resorts and restaurants cater for a set of visitors most of whom are on package tours from Europe, North America and Asian. Families can enjoy comfortable and inexpensive holidays in Langkawi. The island will appeal less to independent travellers, although, there is a lot of low cost accommodation and cheap food on Langkawi which makes it easy to stay on Langkawi on a small budget.

Langkawi’s most famous attraction is its Sky Bridge, which you reach by cable car. The Sky Bridge is a 125 metres long platform between top hill tops. At it highest point the Sky Bridge is 100 metres off the the ground. If you want to save money you can skip the cable car (which is called the ‘SkyGlide’) and walk 10 minutes up a track on the hillside to get to the Sky Bridge.
