About Wat Tham Suea
Wat Tham Suea is a very popular tourist attraction located 4.9 km from Krabi Bus Terminal. Wat Tham Suea, which means Tiger Cave Temple, is named after the caves located within the temple grounds where the monks go to meditate. The legend is that a large tiger used to roam around these caves, which now have shrines inside them.

The other part of Wat Tham Suea, which is what most people come to see, is the hill top temple which is only accessible via over 1,200 steep stairs which it takes 30 to 50 minutes to climb, depending upon how fit you are. At the top of the hill is an observation platform with a large gold Buddha statue and a small shrine hall. The views from the top are well worth the long walk up and the almost as tiring walk back down. Near the bottom of the staircase there are lots of wild monkeys which are harmless so long as you don’t bring any food with you. It’s free to visit Wat Tham Suea although you need to organise your own transport there and back again because there are no public bus or shared taxi services which go to Wat Tham Suea. The temple is open all hours which means that adventurous visitors can go very in the morning to see the sunrise from the hill top temple.
