About travel in Phuket
Taxi services are notoriously expensive in Phuket and for this reason we recommend we recommend that you take advantage of some of the local transport service available on the island. Phuket Airport is located to the north of Phuket and a long journey from Phuket Town and the popular beach resort areas in the south of the island. To save money on taxi fares we recommend taking the airport bus from Phuket Airport for the first stage of your journey for your final destination. The Phuket Airport Bus is operated by the government with the intention of making travel around Phuket more affordable for visitors. The airport bus departs frequently from 07:30 until 21:30 and takes an 1 hour 25 minutes to travel on a fixed route from the airport to Phuket Bus Terminal 1 in Phuket Town.
From Phuket Bus Terminal 1 you can connect with shared minivans and shared taxis to most destinations across the island including Patong Beach and Kata Beach. Phuket Town is also an interesting destination in its own right with plenty of old buildings, shops, restaurants and bars worth exploring and some great value for money hotels.
