About Ao Nang Beach

Ao Nang Beach is a 1.4 km long stretch of white sand beach. The beach itself is relatively narrow with a pedestrian walkway running the entire length of the beach. The busiest part of the beach is the eastern end which is the closest area to Ao Nang town and near to the main beach front hotels. On the other side of the road from the beach is a busy street which is lined with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars catering to all tastes. Ao Nang Beach is very touristy and it gets very busy in the high season. Ao Nang Beach tends to be most popular with families on relatively short holidays to Thailand who appreciate the wide range of familiar amenities, such as two branches of McDonalds restaurants, and easy travel from Bangkok through Krabi International Airport. Ao Nang Beach is less popular with independent travellers for much the same reasons.

Ao Nang Beach in Krabi Province

Ao Nang is a compact area which hosts the bulk of the tourists going on holiday in mainland Krabi. This means that you do not need to travel very far from it to get away from most of the other foreign visitors and a chance to experience the ‘real’ Thailand. Indeed, the next beach along the coast, Noppharat Thara Beach (walking distance from Ao Nang Beach) is a lot quieter. As is Krabi town whose markets and riverfront area are charming and comparatively underdeveloped compared to Ao Nang Beach.
