The journey by air takes slightly over 1 hour, by bus the journey takes about 11 hours, and by train the journey is scheduled to take between 8 hours 15 minutes and 11 hours 35 minutes depending upon which train service you take.

Ubon Ratchathani has a city centre population of over 82,000 and was founded in the late 18th Century. Ubon Ratchathani is best known for its Buddhist temples. Wat Nong Bua is recently built temple with a large steep sided white chedi. Wat Thung Si Muang has an interesting wooden scripture hall which is raised above a small lake on wooden stilts to stop insects eating the wood. Wat Pah Nanachat is a forest temple located outside the city centre which is famous as being the only temple in Thailand where English is spoken as the principal language and as a place where foreigner can come to learn about Buddhism.
