About Khao Sok National Park
Khao Sok National Park covers an area of 739 square kilometres in Southern Thailand to the north of Phang Nga and west of Surat Thani. At the centre of the park is the large man made Cheow Lan Lake which itself covers an area of 185 square kilometres. The lake was created in 1987 when the area was flooded following the construction of the 95 metres high and 761 meters long Rajjaprabha Dam. The lake is integral part of the national park and a tourist attraction itself.

There are two ways to access Khao Sok National Park. The joint speedboat and bus service from Koh Yao Noi arrives at the Western Entrance to the park which is by the park’s headquarters building. This is the best place to go for trekking and to examine the flora and fauna in the national park.
The Eastern Entrance to the park is via the pier near Rajjaprabha Dam. From the pier you can hire a local wooden boat service for a tour around the lake and to reach the famous floating bungalows in Cheow Lan Lake where you can stay overnight. Some of the bungalows are very basic without electricity and some are privately managed and better equipped.
