About Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat, near the town of Siem Reap, was constructed in the 12th Century as a Hindu temple with was later converted into Buddhist as the beliefs of the Khmer Empire changed over time. Angkor Wat is large walled temple within a moat covering an area of over 1.6 million square metres. At the centre of the temple are five towers arranged in a cross to represent the sacred Mount Meru, which in the Hindu belief system is the home of the gods. Between these central towers and the outer wall there are a series of courtyards which decrease in size as you approach the central towers. Elaborate carvings and statues feature heavily throughout the temple.

Admission to Angkor Wat costs $37 for a 1 day pass, $62 for a 3 day pass and $72 for a 1 week pass. The fee also includes entrance to other temples in the area such as Angkor Thom. Visiting hours for Angkor Wat are from 05:30 to 17:30 every day. To reach Angkor Wat from Siem Reap Town you need to hire a taxi, tuk-tuk or motorbike taxi as there is no public transport available locally.
