About Krabi
The most popular tourist area in mainland Krabi Province is Ao Nang Beach. Ao Nang Beach is 1.4 km long backed by a row of shops, bars and restaurants. Ao Nang also has lots of hotels and its close to a large airport. All the perfect ingredients for a successful package holiday destination. There is, however, a lot more to Krabi Province than Ao Nang Beach. Near to Ao Nang is Railay, which is inaccessible by road due to the mountainous terrain. It is busy in Railay to the same extent that it is busy in Koh Phi Phi, but nonetheless well worth visiting for the fantastic scenery and stunning beaches.

Much less busy, and with more more to see and do, is the main town of Krabi which receives far fewer visitors. Krabi town doesn’t have a swimming beach, but it’s a lively picturesque town with a rich culture. Maharaj Food Market, in the centre of the town, is the largest food market in Southern Thailand and a great place to explore early in the morning to see the wonderful local produce and eat inexpensive and authentic local food. Later in the morning we recommend that you make your way to Wat Tham Suea, a few kilometres to the north of the town centre, to climb to the hill top shrines and then visit the caves when the monks go to meditate. In the early evening take a stroll in the Chaofa Park which is on the river front in the town centre. The view of the mangrove swamps on the other side of the river and the backdrop of strange shaped mountains is great. After dark there are three different night markets in the town to choose to and if you are in Krabi town at the weekend you can enjoy a drink and see live music at Krabi’s Walking Street.
